My Host Dad's 50th Birthday

Here are some pictures from last Saturday, my host dad' 50th birthday party. It was a great night and we had so much fun!!! Happy birthday Mario and thanks for always being the person I can play around with, make jokes and for always cheering me up.  Soon I'll write a post about senior breakfast that was this morning, hopefully I'll do it later today or tomorrow. Saturday is PROM!!!! So on the weekend I'll write a post about that too, if I have time.

Family Visiting!!!

I'll never stop saying how much this year changed me, how much my life changed. It's a completely new experience that makes you grow in a way you could never imagine. I now know what independence is like, what homesickness is.  I now have a new perspective of life, of friendship and, most important, of family. I had never realised how important family is in your life, and how I was taking it for granted. Probably the most important value this exchange year taught me is to understand what's important and what isn't. The most important thing in life will always be the family. I missed my parents and my brother a lot. As I had told you, they came to visit me this past week, since it was spring break and the last Thursday was my 18th birthday. I spent such a great time with them, after eight months far away. 

They got here Tuesday night around 7 and we went to get dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings all together, with my host family. Unfortunately in the following two days the weather wasn't really good because it snowed and we were also in the north of the city to visit the Air Force Base on Thursday so it was worst. We kind of made a plan to visit tourist places around, even if what was really important was spending time together, and I'd say we succeeded. Wednesday we went to get breakfast at Starbucks, see a little bit of Downtown and then we went to the Apple Store to get an iWatch for my birthday!!! Then my dad and brother got one too since it's convenient to buy it here and they really liked it. It's really cool, you can do a lot of stuff with it. Thursday we got breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts and then we visited the Air Force Base un in the North and then we went to play Bowling since it was pretty cold outside. Then we went to rent my Prom tuxedo. I found one I really like and I ordered it. Prom night is gonna be the 23rd!!! At night we went to eat at Olive Garden, an Italian restaurant, for by eighteenth birthday, with my host family as well. It was a great night and we had fun. On Friday we went to Manitou Springs to visit the town and to see the incline (just see, we didn't actually do it lol). We ate lunch there and then we took the CogRail and went up to Pikes Peak. Unfortunately we couldn't reach the top because of the snow but it was still beautiful. After that we went to iHop to eat pancakes for dinner, my parents loved it. 

Saturday it was the first actual nice day, the temperatures went up and it was really nice. In the morning we went to visit the Broadmoor Hotel and then we went home to see the Barca game with my host family. After that we went to see Garden Of the Gods and we did some shopping there. At night we went to see Seven Falls with Mario and Helen, my host parents, and it was beautiful! After that we went to a Japanese restaurant called Musashi and it was really interesting, the way they cook food right in front of you and they do their kind of show. The food was really good too. My parents have been taking Spanish classes and since my host family is hispanic and catholic and they go to a Spanish mass my parents wanted to go and see how it was, so that's what we did Sunday morning. Right after we wondered around in Downtown a little and then we went to the house for a Barbecue my host family had organised. We ate Carne Asada which was awesome and talked for the whole afternoon. Monday, which was yesterday, was my first day back to school so my parents drove Bryan, who is my host brother, and me, to school. Then they came a little bit before school was over so I showed them around and had them meet some teachers. After school we went to eat at Chick-fil-a with some friends. Then we just went to the hotel for a couple of hours and night we went all together to eat Pupusas, a tipical food from El Salvador, where my host mom's from. Today, in the morning they had to leave. I have my second period off on Tuesdays so they came to pick me up and we had breakfast together, the last time. They already landed safe and got home. So yeah, that was my week, probably one of the best of my life. 

These days also made me realise more how fast the time has gone by fast, how in 54 days it's gonna be my turn to get on a plane and go home. I think I'm not ready for this yet, but I still have time and I just wanna enjoy it. I just wanna say thanks again to my parents for being the best in the world, for coming to visit me and for allowing all this to be possible. Thanks also to my amazing host family, which has always been here for me and has made this week possible and awesome. Love you guys :)

Non smetterò mai di dire quanto quest'anno mi abbia cambiato, quanto la mia vita sia cambiata. È un'esperienza completamente nuova che ti fa crescere in un modo che non immagineresti mai. Ora so cosa significa indipendenza, e cos'è la nostalgia. Ora ho una nuova prospettiva di vita, di amicizia e, ancor più importante, di famiglia. Non mi ero mai reso conto di quanto la mia famiglia fosse importante nella mia vita, e di quanto la stessi dando per scontato. Probabilmente la qualità più importante che quest'anno mi abbia insegnato è quella di capire cos'è davvero importante, e cosa non lo è.  La cosa pi importante nella vita sarà sempre la famiglia. Mi sono mancati i miei genitori e mio fratello, molto. Come vi avevo detto, sono venuti a trovarmi questa scorsa settimana, visto che ero in vacanza di primavera e visto che giovedì era il mio diciottesimo compleanno. Ho passato veramente degli stupendi momenti con loro, dopo 8 mesi lontano.

Sono arrivati martedì sera intorno alle 7 e siamo andati a mangiare da Buffalo Wild Wings tutti insieme, con la mia famiglia ospitante. Sfrontatamente nei due giorni seguenti il tempo non era dei migliori, è nevicato e in più giovedì eravamo nel nord della città a visitare la Base delle Forze Aeree quindi era anche peggio. Abbiamo fatto una specie di itinerario per visitare diversi posti turistici, anche se ciò che er davvero importante era spendere un po' di tempo insieme, e direi che l'abbiamo fatto con successo. Mercoledì abbiamo fatto colazione da Starbucks, fatto un giro in centro città a poi siamo andati all'Apple Store a comprare l'iWatch per il mio compleanno!!! Giovedì' abbiamo fatto colazione da Dunkin' Donuts and poi abbiamo visitato la Base delle Forze Aeree nel nord. Dopodiché siamo andati a giocare a bowling visto che facevamo abbastanza freddo. Più tardi siamo andati a prenotare lo smoking per il Prom, il ballo elegante che si terrà in due settimane, il 23 Aprile. La sera siamo andati da Olive Garden, un ristorante italiano, per il mio compleanno, tutti insieme con la mia famiglia ospitante. È stata una buonanotte fantastica e ci siamo divertiti. Venerdì siamo andati a Manitou Springs a visitare la città e vedere l'Incline, una montagna con circa 5000 scalini se non ricordo male. Abbiamo mangiato lì e poi preso la CogRail, un trenino, per arrivare in cima alla montagna. In realtà non abbiamo potuto raggiungere la vetta per via della neve, ma era comunque bellissimo. Dopo quello siamo andati da iHop a mangiare Pancakes per cena, ai miei genitori è piaciuto moltissimo.

Sabato è stato il primo giorno in cui c'è stato effettivamente bel tempo, le temperature sono salite e si stava davvero bene. La mattina siamo andati a visitare il Broadmoor Hotel, un famoso Hotel di lusso, dopodiché abbiamo guardato la partita del Barcellona a casa con la mia famiglia ospitante. Dopo la partita siamo andati a visitare Garden Of the Gods, un parco naturale con delle pietre particolari, e abbiamo comprato alcune cose nei negozi lì attorno. Di sera siamo andati alle Seven Falls, le sette cascate, con Helen e Mario, i miei genitori ospitanti, ed erano davvero belle! Per cena siamo andati in un ristorante giapponese chiamato Musashi ed è stato davvero interessante. Praticamente ti cucinano davanti, c'è una piastra ad ogni tavolo, e fanno anche una sorta di show con giochetti e cose simili. Il cibo era molto buono. I miei genitori hanno da qualche mese iniziato a prendere lezioni di spagnolo e, visto che la mi famiglia è ispanica e cattolica, domenica sono venuti con noi alla messa in spagnolo. Appena dopo la messa abbiamo fatto un giro nel centro città e poi siamo andati a casa per un barbecue organizzato dalla mia famiglia ospitante. Abbiamo mangiato Carne Asada, che era davvero buona, e parlato per l'intero pomeriggio. Lunedì è stato il mio primo giorno di ritorno a scuola quindi i mie genitori hanno portato me e Bryan, il mio fratello ospitante, a scuola. Poi sono tornati più tardi, prima che finisse la scuola, così ho fatto fare loro un giro e hanno conosciuto alcuni professori. Abbiamo poi riposato qualche ora in Hotel e di sera siamo andati tutti insieme a mangiare Pupusas, un cibo tipico di El Salvador, che è dove la mia madre ospitante è nata. Stamattina hanno dovuto partire per tornare in Italia. Visto che i martedì ho la seconda lezione libera mi sono venuti a prendere e abbiamo fatta colazione insieme l'ultima volta. Sono già atterrati e arrivati a casa. Quindi sì, questa è stata la mia settimana, probabilmente una delle migliori della mia vita.

Questi giorni mi hanno anche fatto rendere conto di quanto veloce il tempo sia passato e che in 54 giorni sarà il mio turno di prendere l'aereo e tornare a casa. Non so se sono ancora pronto per questo, ma c'è ancora tempo e voglio solo godermelo. Volevo solo ringraziare la mia famiglia per essere la migliore, per essermi venuta a trovare, e per aver permesso che quello che era un sogno diventasse realtà. Grazie anche alla mia fantastica famiglia ospitante, che è sempre stata qui per me e che ha reso questa settimana possibile e l'ha fatta diventare fantastica. Vi voglio bene :)

Short Heads Up :)

Hi guys, sorry I haven't written for a while and the truth is I've been kind of busy and I didn't really have anything to talk about either. I just wanted to tell you that I'm about to go in Spring Break, I have only two days of school left. A little bit of resting and also my parents will be here in less than two weeks!!! It's gonna be really fun, I miss them and I'm sure we'll spend some great time together. So I'll be writing a post about and in a couple of weeks I'll post it. I'm also gonna start playing soccer at the end of the month because the 31st is my 18TH BIRTHDAY!!!!! I'm so excited about that too so I'll let you know how that goes as well. 

I'm done writing the programs for my Italian school and as soon as they let me know something I'll write something about that as well, hopefully soon. I'm also planning on writing a post about AP and IB classes, GPA and ACT tests to explain some stuff I found interesting and I think they might catch your attention. Last but not least, Prom. It's gonna be April 23rd, I have a date and I think I'll go to get my tuxedo the week my parents are gonna be here: I'm so excited. And also my blog reached 10000 visualisation!!! So thank you all for follow my experience, it means a lot to me, I'm really happy to keep this updated as my adventure goes, it's always a good way to relax a little and express how I feel. This blog will also always be a memory of this year, and I hope that it's useful more some of you too, maybe future exchange students :)

Festival Of Winds - CSU Pueblo!!!

Without music, life would be a mistake. Everyone listens to music, it's everywhere. Movies would be nothing without it, life wouldn't either. I'm not a professional musician, I won't follow a music career or study it in college, but I love playing. I'm a euphonium and tenor sax player and I love playing music as much as listening, it makes me happy, feeling better if I'm sad, and accomplished when I play a part I had never thought I could play. You can always find something challenging, something at the next level. Music changes you, it allows you to express yourself in a way that nothing else can. It's as well really good for you, it helps focus. In my opinion you can also understand a lot about a person from what music they listen or they like to play. Music is just amazing.

These past three days, as I had told you, I've been to the Festival of Winds of CSU Pueblo, an event where selected high school players from everywhere in Colorado join together to form 4 Honor Bands, practice for 3 days and then have a concert. I might take a little bit to tell about this amazing experience because I like it a lot and I have a bunch of things I wanna talk about, hope you enjoy. 

So about two weeks ago we received our audition music, which we had to prepare (I actually didn't, I just played it a couple of times right before the audition haha). Thursday morning, once we got to Pueblo, we checked in and then sign up for the audition. I was really nervous, it was my first audition ever and I also had to play scales I had memorised just the day before. It actually went pretty good, I played the pieces and then they let me choose two scale, so I payed b flat and F concert. There were 24 euphonium players and 4 bands, Green and Gold are the top ones and Blue and Red the others. I made first chair and first euphonium in the Gold band, which I was really happy about. The total number of students was about 400. Thursday night we had our first rehearsal from 7:30 to 9:30. The four conductors were foreign, from Taiwan, Singapore, Czechoslovakia, and now was actually american, from Wisconsin I think. Mine was a really nice and funny person, Mr. Steven Ying-Chung-Chang. Every band played music from the home country of the respective conductor. The music that plays in background is from our concert, if I'll be able to find it, probably all the four pieces hahaha. We had practise all day Friday and Saturday morning. It was really cool bacause we had the chance so go to a lot of concert as well, which were very amazing. There were like 8 but we didn't get to go to all of them. The first one I went to was of the Airforce Falconaires jazz band and it was amazing!  The second was Friday between our two rehearsal and it was by Top of the Hill Band, which is the band made by all the band directors from every school from which there are students. The next one was by the CSU-Pueblo Jazz Band Ensemble and it was awesome, they played really good with impressive solos. Right after that one the Pikes Peak Brass Band played. The last one was on Saturday morning by the CSU-Pueblo Wind Ensemble with a Mariachi group at the end. Saturday afternoon we finally had our concert, after 3 days practising. The concert went really good, even though when we got there my music flew away and one of the pieces ended up on the roof of a building and playing in a different key than the other players I had to transpose it. It was messy haha.

It's been really amazing and I learn so many things. Having a new conductor is always a nice experience, and I really liked that he made us discuss the music and share what we thought we were not playing in the right way. It really was the best music event I've ever been to and I had so much fun. I wanna dedicate this to my conductor Mr. Bell, which is really a good person who helped us and came with us, and to all the friends I spent this day with which I'll never forget. Thanks guys! :)

Senza musica, la vita sarebbe un errore. Tutti ascoltano musica, è ovunque. I film non sarebbero niente senza, e la vita nemmeno. Non sono un musicista di professione e non ho intenzione di studiare musica o seguirla come carriera, ma amo suonare. Suono il flicorno baritono e il sax tenore e davvero adoro suonare e ascolta musica, mi fa stare bene, mi tira su di morale e mi fa sentire realizzato quando riesco a suonare qualcosa che non avrei mai creduto di poter suonare. In più puoi sempre trovare qualcosa di più difficile che ti metta alla prova. La musica ti cambia, ti permette di esprimerti come nient'altro. Ti aiuta a concentrarti e puoi capire molto di una persona dal tipo di musica che ascolta. La musica è semplicemente fantastica.

Questi ultimi giorni , come vi avevo detto, sono andato al Festival Of Winds della CSU-Pueblo (Colorado State University), un evento dove stupendi scelti da tutto il Colorado si uniscono per formare 4 bande d'onore, fare prove per tre giorni e poi fare un concerto. Probabilmente scriverò un po' più del solito per parlare di questo evento perchè è stato veramente stupendo e ho alcune cose da raccontare :)

Circa due settimane fa abbiamo ricevuto la musica per la nostra audizione, che dovevamo preparare, anche se io non l'ho studiata fino alle mattina dell'audizione hahaha. Giovedì mattina una volta arrivati ci siamo registrati e ci siamo messi in lista per le audizioni. Ero veramente nervoso visto che non avevo mai fatto un audizione prima e avrei dovuto suonare diverse scale a loro richiesta, che non sapevo e che quindi avevo cercato di memorizzare il giorno prima. In realtà alla fine è andata bene, mi hanno fatto suonare tutti i pezzi e poi due scale a scelta, quindi ho suonato Si bemolle maggiore e Fa maggiore hahaha. C'erano 24 flicorni e 4 bande, verde, oro, rossa e blu. Io ero nella banda oro e ero primo suonatore prima sedia, per la quale ero molto felice. In totale hanno partecipato più di 400 studenti. Giovedì sera abbiamo avuto la prima prova nelle rispettive bande, dalle 19.30 alle 21.30. Dei quattro conduttori tre erano stranieri, da Taiwan, dalla Cecoslovacchia e da Singapore, il quarto era una donna, americana, mi pare fosse del Kentucky. Quello della mia banda, Steven Ying Chuang-Chang, era una persona davvero divertente. Ogni banda ha suonato musica del paese del rispettivo direttore. La musica che sentite di sottofondo, sempre che riesca a trovare i pezzi, è presa dal mio concerto. Abbiamo avuto prove venerdì tutto il giorno e sabato mattina. è stato davvero bello perchè abbiamo avuto anche la occasione di andare a molti concerti, ed erano spettacolari. Ce ne sono stati tipo 8 ma non siamo andati a tutti. Il primo, giovedì sera, era della Airforce Falconaires Jazz Band, ossia le Forze Aeree, la cui base è proprio qui dove vivo, in Colorado Springs. Il secondo, venerdì mattina, fra le due prove, ed era dei Direttori D'Orchestra, gli insegnati di tutte le scuole dello stato che erano andati con gli studenti. La sera dello stesso giorno ha suonato una delle bande dell'università in cui eravamo, CSU-Pueblo Jazz Band. Subito dopo la banda di ottoni dello stato, Pikes Peak Brass Band. Infine sabato mattina la banda principale dell'università, CSU-Pueblo Wind Ensemble e alla fine del concerto, visto che l'ultimo pezzo era messicano, è entrato in scena un gruppo di Mariachi. Sabato pomeriggio finalmente il nostro concerto, delle quattro bande, dopo 3 giorni di prove. Il concerto è andato molto bene, anche se uno dei miei spartiti è volato via appena prima del concerto finendo sul tetto di un edificio, e visto che suono in una chiave diversi dagli altri ho dovuto transporre la loro parte, è stato un casino hahaha. L'esperienza è stata davvero fantastica e ho imparato molto. Avere un nuovo direttore è sempre un grande metodo di apprendimento e adattamento. La cosa che mi è piaciuta molto del mio è che ci faceva discutere la musica che suonavamo per vedere dove sbagliavamo, essere coscienti degli errori, ascoltare. é stato il miglior evento di musica a cui abbia mai partecipato. Voglio dedicare questo to Mr. Bell, il direttore e insegnate alla mia scuola, una gran bella persona che ci ha aiutato molto e ci ha accompagnato, e tu tutti i miei amici che hanno speso con me questi fantastici giorni che non dimenticherò mai. Grazie ragazzi! :)

99 Days Left !!!

Happy to go back but upset for leaving. It's that moment when you don't even know how you feel. I do miss my parents and my brother, which actually will come to visit me in 37 days, my friends, my life.  I'm really accomplished for my experience here, I'm having a really great time, I have an awesome host family which is really a second family now. I couldn't be more happy about this exchange year which has brought me so many adventures and new things. It's about to be time to leave this dream, and get back to the real world. Right now I just wanna enjoy this 3 months I have left and have fun, it's gonna be great. I might write a post in the next days about the things I'm starting doing for my Italian school, making up and organising. I'll be at UCS Pueblo from Thursday to Saturday for the Festival Of Winds, I'll definitely do a post probably next Sunday if I have time, otherwise Monday.

Super Bowl 50 - Broncos Champs

Last Sunday there was the Super Bowl, the final for the NFL, the National Football League (American Football of course). It was between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos, which is the team of Colorado, the state I'm doing my exchange year in, so it was kind of big deal since football here is very common. It was played in California, at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. It was called the Golden Super Bowl since it was played in this state and also because it's the fiftieth. The game was really good and exiting. It was Peyton Manning's Last Game, the Broncos Quarterback, who is now retired. I really had fun and here are some pictures of the game, of the Nation Anthem by Lady Gaga and of the halftime show by Bruno Mars, Coldplay and Beyoncé. The songs playing if you're using a computer are from the halftime show :)

Domenica scorsa c'è stato il Super Bowl, la finale di campionato della NFL, la lega nazionale di football americano. I finalisti erano Carolina Panthers e Denver Broncos, che è la squadra del Colorado, lo stato dove mi trovo, quindi era una cosa abbastanza importante visto che qui tutti seguono il football.

La partita si è disputata in California, allo Stadio Levi a Santa Clara ed è stato chiamato Golden Super Bowl essendo il cinquantesimo ed essendo in California, the Golden State. é stato davvero una bella partita. Era anche l'ultima per Peyton Manning, il Quarterback dei Broncos che ora si è ritirato. Mi sono molto divertito. Vi lascio foto della partita, nell'inno nazionale cantato da Lady Gaga e dell'halftime show di Bruno Mars, Coldplay e Beyoncé. Snow Days - First Week Of February

Hey guys, I know I still have to write a post about the "letter to myself" written at the orientation, and I will soon, but today I wanted to tell you about these past few crazy days, the weather, the snow, the delays, and the school closures. 

I came back from the ski trip, which I wrote about, on Saturday night and it was already pretty cold and we knew it was gonna snow soon. At Monarch, where we had just came back from, it was already snowing, since like 2/3 pm. 
It started later and it fell over night too, but in the morning it wasn't bad at all, it was white around, but not on the streets. In the afternoon it started again and it came and left, but at the end of the day there was enough snow and school on Monday was closed.  Monday was even worst, it snow the whole day, and of course they closed on Tuesday as well, and also Wednesday due to the bad streets. Thursday we had  two-hours-delay, which means that school started at 9:30 instead of 7:30. They monitored still over night and they might have close, but I'm glad they didn't, I was so bored at home. Anyway a lot of snow fell. Here, where I live, it was around 20 Inches, which is 50 cm. But up in the north of the city, not that far from my school, in Falcon, it reached 5/6 feet, which is 160/80 cm, the pictures are pretty amazing. The reason for the delay on Thursday was, beside the unsafe streets, the cold. The temperature in the morning were supposed to be around -18°C. On Thursday night it snowed again, but not much. We didn't have closure or delay for Friday but they should have done something because it was pretty bad. Well, I guess you understand that the week went by fast hahaha. Now the weather is way better it's supposed to be sunny and pretty warm for a couple o weeks. I actually don't now if and when I'll write the post about the letter because I the next one will be about the SuperBowl so I'll see :)

Ehi :) So che vi avevo detto che avrei scritto un posto sulla lettera, scusate, se riesco lo farò questa settimana. Oggi volevo parlarvi del tempo che abbiamo avuto di recente e delle varie conseguenze e chiusure. Sono tornato sabato sera dallo snowboarding e faceva già abbastanza freddo e sapevamo avrebbe nevicato. A Monarch, dov'eravamo a sciare, già cadevano fiocchi un paio d'ore prima che partissimo. Ha nevicato la sera tardi e di notte, ma di mattina non era poi così male, era bianco ma le strade erano pulite. Nel pomeriggio ha nevicato molto, un po' a momenti, e lunedì hanno chiuso le scuole. Lunedì era anche peggio e quindi martedì hanno chiuso. Dopodiché ha smesso di nevicare ma le strade erano davvero brutte e hanno chiuso anche mercoledì. Giovedì abbiamo avuto un entrata posticipata alle 9, non tanto per la neve quanto per il freddo, c'era -18°C. Alla fine c'era molta neve in giro, qui dove vivo io era attorno ai 50 centimetri ma più a nord vicino alla mia scuola era attorno al metro e mezzo. Giovedì sera e notte ha nevicato di nuovo e le strade erano brutte il giorno seguente, avrebbero dovuto chiudere o almeno mettere un ritardo ma non l'hanno fatto, siamo arrivati a scuola tardi per il traffico. La settimana è ovviamente passata veloce. Ora fa caldo, ci sono 10/15°C ed e previsto bello tutta settimana. Non so se riuscirò a scrivere un post sulla lettera, vedrò. Il prossimo sarà sulla finale del campionato di football americano, il SuperBowl, che si è giocato domenica :)
