Counselor & Schedule - Sophomore

Hi, I've just gone to my future school, you know, on Tuesday I'll start! Today I've had the appointment with the counsellor, a person who helps you making your study plan, choosing classes and the difficulty. My High School is Sand Creek, it's really big, it has kind 2000 students. I don't have yet my ID, a sort of card with your info, grade and this kind of things. I'll go to do that on Tuesday, I'll upload a pic. So now I'm gonna tell you about the classes I chose. I tried to choose more smilier classes to the ones I do in Italy so I won't take exams to recover them. Biology, chemistry, English, Spanish III, Basketball and PE (once per semester), Algebra II, World History and Wind Ensemble that's Band, but on the second semester I'm gonna do Psychology. I'm happy to have chosen these classes and for the school, I love it. I also have my locker that's really hard to open but I got it, I think it's just habits. Now I have to go because we're leaving to go to do camping and we'll be back on Sunday. Bye :)

Ciao, sono appena tornato dalla mia futura scuola, martedì' sarà il primo giorno! Oggi avevo l'appuntamento col counselor, una persona che ti aiuta a fare il tuo piano di studio, scegliere le materie e la difficoltà. La mia scuola è sand creek, è molto grande, ha circa 2000 studenti. Non ho ancora il mio ID, una specie di tesserino con le informazioni personali. Me lo daranno martedì e poi caricherò una foto. Ecco le materie che ho scelto: biologia, chimica, inglese, spagnolo, algebra, storia mondiale, basket ed educazione fisica e banda, ma nel secondo semestre farò psicologia. Sono felice di aver scelto queste materie e per la scuola, mi piace. Ho anche già il mio armadietto, che è difficile da apri ore ma ce l'ho fatta, credo di dovermi solo abituare. Ora devo andare perché stiamo andando a fare campeggio e torniamo domenica. Ciao :)

First Days & The House

Hi guys! I've been here for some days now, jet lag has gone, I'm fine and I'm getting used to this life. My family here is very nice, We get along and we have fun together. I did FaceTime with my family in Italy this morning and also yesterday, everything is okay. Tomorrow I have the appointment with the consoler, a person who helps me making my study plan, choosing classes and that kind of things. On Tuesday I'm starting school!!! Yesterday I also did some shopping, I bought some clothes.

In these days I've taken some pics of the house just for you, so you can see how's where I live. 

The first pic is the kitchen, the second is my room, shared with my host brother, Bryan. It's a pretty good house, I love it. The third pic is neighbourhood, it's really quiet and nice.

A Dream That Becomes True

Here we go guys, I'm finally in the United States, in my host family house... I'm at home. It's been a long day travelling all around the world, taking flights, discovering new things. Everything has been good, if you're reading this you're supposed to have seen the pics I took during my travel so you can imagine how it has been like. The host family is really happy and they enjoyed the gifts. They were waiting for me at the airport with the local coordinator, we took pictures together and then we have gone having dinner in a Mexican restaurant. I've just hanged all my clothes and seen the house, now we're trying unlocking my iphone. I share the bedroom with Bryan, my host brother. They're really nice with me and I love staying here. Ci siamo ragazzi, sono finalmente negli Stati Uniti, nella casa della mia host family... Sono a casa. È stata una lunga giornata viaggiando per il mondo, prendendo aerei, scoprendo nuove cose. Va tutto bene, se state leggendo questo avrete visto anche le foto del mio viaggio e vi sarete fatti un'idea. La famiglia ospitante sembra felice e i regali sono piaciuti. Mi stavano aspettando all'aeroporto con la coordinatrice locale, abbiamo fatta delle foto insieme e poi siamo andati a cena in un ristorante messicano. Ho appena finito di appendere i miei vestiti e di vedere la casa, ora stiamo provando a sbloccare l mio cellulare. Condivo la stanza con Bryan, il mio fratello ospitante. Sono molto carini con me e mi piace stare qui. State sintonizzati per sapere le novità!

Hi everybody, I have finally left but not arrived yet, I'm still travelling... I'm on the plane right now!!! In this moment we are flying over the Greenland, in 4 hours the plane'll land in Chicago. For now everything has been good, I have given the gifts to my parents and I didn't miss the flight. We are late because someone has felt bad when we were leaving Frankfurt.... I hope not to miss the flight for Colorado Springs, in theory I wouldn't have to have problems because I have 4 hours between the two flights. What else? I'm tired, now I'll try to rest a bit.

I hope to get finding my luggage and check in for the domestic flight to my final destination.

I'm really excited to know my host family, to be here... It's also weird how times flies.

It's also the first time I use the net on an aircraft, I hope it to be the first of a long experiences list :)

Ciao a tutti, sono finalmente partito ma non ancora arrivato, sono in viaggio... Proprio ora sono sull'aereo!!! In questo momento stiamo sorvolando la Groenlandia, fra circa 4 ore l'aereo atterrerà a Chicago. Per ora è andato tutto bene, ho dato i regali ai miei genitori e non ho perso l'aereo. Siamo in ritardo poiché qualcuno si è sentito male quando stavamo per decollare a Francoforte... Spero di non perdere il volo per Colorado Springs, in teoria non dovrei avere problemi in quanto avevo 4 ore fra i due voli. Che altro? Sono stanco, ora proverò a riposare un po'. Spero di riuscire a trovare il mio bagaglio e a fare il check-in per il volo domestico verso la mia ultima destinazione. Sono molto emozionato, sto per conoscere la mia famiglia ospitante... è strano come il tempo passi in fretta.

È anche la prima volta che uso internet in aereo, spero che sia la prima di una lunga lista di esperienze :)

Leaving!

It's Time To Say Goodbye

This is it. It's time to go now. It's so weird, lot of hours thinking about this moment and finally it has just happened. Now I'm here, at the keyboard, not knowing excactly what to write and... I'm happy, upset, but happy and ready to do my best. I'm not going to write thousand of word, I just wanna say thanks to everybody helped me, to who made this become possible.

Today I have done a little party with my friends and... It's hard to say goodbye. Hugs, Kisses, Tears.

In a couple of hours I'll leave and then my adventure'll begin.

Ci siamo. Ora è tempo di andare. è strano, tante ore pensando a questo momento e finalmente è semplicemente arrivato. Ora sono qui, alla tastiera, senza sapere esattamente cosa scrivere e... sono felice, triste, ma felice e pronto a dare il meglio. Non ho intenzione di scrivere migliaia di parole, voglio solo dire grazie a tutti quelli che mi hanno aiutato, a chi ha reso tutto questo possibile. in un paio d'ore partirò e la mia avventura avrà inizio.

News & Packing

Hola chicos! Today I'm going to tell you some news, what happened in these last days. You know, just 4 days and then I'll take the flight that'll change my life, these last moments are very important for me and my family. I'll write about the gift I'm going to do and at last about packing. 

First of all I wanna tell you I received the Visa and the Passport, in fact when I went to the consulate I had to leave it there and then Wep sent it to be. It's pretty nice, here is the pic.  I have already talked about it but I'll say it again: the Visa is the document that allows you to go to the US and to stay there for a determined period. This is a j-1, for the exchange students and lasts an year. 

It's almost time, I'm preparing all I'll need. As I have already told you my friends organised me a party and I'm going to do another one on Monday, the last day, with the friends closer to me. In the last days I got the gift to bring to my host family and also the ones for my family here in Italy. I bought engraved jewels, on a keychain 'the best brother', on a necklace 'the best mother' and on a tie holder 'the best father'. I'll write about them in the following days. 

Packing
From the moment I have known the travel details I started thinking about when I would have to do the luggages, to pack. This is it, packing time is now. What to bring, what not to bring? This is the question. I've just 23 kg for the main luggage and then 8 for the handle one. Anyway I've almost done all of it: I started putting in the winter clothes, as there it's colder than here, then documents as visa and passport, then the gift for my host family. Today I' put into other things and also summer clothes, leaving out the ones for these last 4 days, I'll put them into the handle luggage. To be honest it has been easier than I thought. The main luggage is done and the weight is right, just 20 kg. I prepared also the letter for my parents and their gift, I'll give them at the airport.
So also another point of the To Do List is gone... Pack! ☑️

Ciao ragazzi! Oggi ho intenzione di raccontarvi un po' le novità, cos'è successo in questi ultimi giorni. Sapete, solo 4 giorni e prenderò il volo che cambierà la mia vita, questi ultimi momenti sono molto importanti per me e la mia famiglia. Vi parlerò dei regali che farò e, infine, della preparazione delle valigie. 
Prima di tutto voglio dirvi che ho ricevuto il visto e il passaporto che avevo dovuto lasciare in consolato. Come potete vedere nella foto il visto che ho ottenuto è un j-1 per exchange. 
È quasi ora, sto preparando tutto il necessario. Come vi ho già detto i miei amici mi hanno organizzato una festa e ce ne sarà un'altra lunedì, l'ultimo giorno. Negli ultimi giorni ho comprato i regali da portare alla mia host family e anche per la mia famiglia qui in Italia. Ho comprato dei gioielli incisi, un portachiavi per mio fratello, una collana per mia mamma e un fermacravatta per mio papà. Vi farò sapere come andrà nei prossimi giorni.
Dal momento in cui ho ricevuto i dettagli del volo ho iniziato a pensare al fatto di dover fare le valigie. Ci siamo, è ora. Cosa portare, cosa non portare? Questo è il dilemma. Ho sono 23 Kg per il bagaglio da mettere nella stiva e 8 per il bagaglio a mano, più una tracolla o la valigetta per il computer. Comunque ho quasi fatto: ho iniziato mettendo dentro i vestiti invernali visto che là fa più freddo, poi i documenti e il passaporto e i regali per la host family. Oggi ho messo anche i vestiti estivi, tenendo fuori le cose per questi ultimi giorni che metterò poi nel bagaglio a mano. Ad essere sincero è stato più facile di quanto mi aspettassi. La valigia grande è fatta e il peso è giusto, solo 20 Kg. Ho preparato anche la lettera per i miei genitori e i regali per loro che consegnerò in aeroporto.
E così anche un alto punto della lista delle cose da fare è andato... Valigie fatte! ☑️

How Lucky Am I To Have Someone That Makes Saying Goodbye So Hard?

This post is to thank some very special people... Friends. 

Today my best friends have organised for me a party in an awesome place where we have had a lot of fun. It has been a great day, staying' together and yeah, starting saying goodbye. We've been to Sassabanek, a place in Iseo with pools, kayaking, beach volley camps and that kind of things. We've had really great time, we've done everything, every possible mess, every possible game but, most important, we've stayed together.

So, what I wanna say you is just... Thank you

Thank you for always cheering me up when I feel down,

Oggi i miei migliori amici mi hanno organizzato una festa in un posto fantastico dove ci siamo divertiti molto. È stata una giornata fantastica, stando insieme e si, iniziando a salutarsi. Siamo andati al Sassabanek, un posto sul Lago d'Iseo con piscine, kayaking, campi da beach volley e quel genere di cose. Abbiamo trascorso bei momenti, abbiamo fatto di tutto, ogni casino possibile, ogni gioco possibile ma, cosa più importante, siamo stati insieme.

Travel Details

Hi guys! I think you notice this post is in English!!! Here we go, departure day is coming (-280 h) and the first language from now will be English, anyway you can find the Italian Translation below. I start saying sorry for the mistakes I'll make but, you know, it's human. 

The Electronic Ticket

This post is about my travel, in fact today I received the informations about the flights, the stopovers and when all this is going to be. I'm leaving really soon, I must be at the airport of Milan Linate at 4:45 am and I'm stopping in Frankfurt, Chicago and finally in Colorado Springs. It's going to be a long long travel, it lasts almost a day, 23 hours. I received also all the info about the flight company, the dimension of the luggages, the documents I must bring... Everything. There isn't going to be a Wep Coordinator  waiting for me at the airport in Italy, or in Frankfurt or in Chicago, I'll be alone, or maybe there'll be some other exchange, I don't know. Once at my final destination my host family will pick me up at the airport and my adventure will officially start. 

As last I wanna tell you I'm thinking about organising a little party with my best friends the day before leaving, Monday 27, to set everybody off. I'll write soon about it, for now it's just an idea. Bye and stay tuned!

Ci siamo, la data di partenza è vicina e la prima lingua d'ora in poi sarà l'inglese, comunque qui, sotto la parte in inglese, troverete sempre la traduzione in italiano. Inizio chiedendo scusa per gli errori che farò ma, si sa, errare è umano. Questo post riguarda il mio viaggio, infatti oggi ho ricevuto le informazioni riguardanti il volo, gli scali e gli orari. Partirò molto presto, devo essere all'aeroporto di Milano Linate alle 4.45 di mattina a poi farò scalo a Francoforte, Chicago e finalmente a Colorado Springs. Sarà un lungo lungo viaggio, durerà quasi un giorno, 23 ore. Ho ricevuto anche tutte le informazioni riguardanti a compagnia aerea, le dimensioni dei bagagli, i documenti che devo portare... Tutto. Non ci sarà un responsabile della Wep ad aspettarmi a Milano o negli altri aeroporti, sarò solo, o forse ci saranno altri exchange, non lo so. Una volta giunto alla mia destinazione finale la mia famiglia ospitante mi verrà a prendere all'aeroporto e la mia avventura avrà ufficialmente inizio.

Letter To My Parents & Vaccinations

Ciao ragazzi, oggi vi parlerò della lettera che sto scrivendo per i miei genitori che darò loro all'aeroporto e delle vaccinazioni necessarie per gli States. Prima di tutto due informazioni utili.

IMPORTANTE! Da qualche giorno ho aggiunto la funzione Follow By Mail, inserendo la vostra mail nella colonna di destra (Enter here your mail for updates) sarete aggiornati quando pubblicherò qualcosa di nuovo, se vi va credo sia una cosa carina. 

La seconda cosa che volevo dirvi è che sto iniziando a tradurre i post, per quelli vecchi aggiungerò sotto un piccolo riassunto in inglese, dal prossimo il testo principale sarà in inglese, sotto troverete la traduzione in italiano. Vi invito comunque a provare a leggere quella in inglese, come esercizio. Vi ricordo inoltre di contattarmi pure sia qui nei commenti sia su qualsiasi social per informazioni. 

Letter To My Parents

I miei genitori non sanno dell'esistenza di questo blog, infatti la mia idea è di dare loro una lettera che sto scrivendo quando darò loro l'ultimo saluto in aeroporto, all'interno della quale troveranno un ringraziamento per aver reso tutto questo possibile e il link del blog, come "regalo" per potermi seguire anche se sarò a 8000 chilometri di distanza. Farò loro anche un piccolo pensiero, sto ancora organizzando la cosa nei dettagli, poi vi racconterò... Mi raccomando, acqua in bocca!

Vaccinations Required 
Questa mattina ho finalmente finito le vaccinazioni obbligatorie per gli Stati Uniti. Infatti, per chi non lo sapesse, per poter frequentare la scuola americana sono richieste alcune vaccinazioni non obbligatorie in Italia, che variano a seconda dello stato e della scuola. Io ho dovuto fare il Test Tubercolino secondo Mantoux, il vaccino per il Meningococco, per l'Epatite A e il quinto richiamo della Polio. Non è niente di doloroso, una semplice puntura in genere, per la maggior parte dei vaccini il servizio è gratuito, ma dipende dall'età. L'agenzia richiede poi le date di contrazioni di varicella e simili e una certificazione che garantisca la somministrazione dei vaccini obbligatori. In tutto dalla nascita io ho fatto ben 27 vaccinazioni!

Letter To My Parents

My parents don't know anything about this blog, I'll give them a letter at the airport with my thanking for having made this possible and with this blog's address. This blog wants to be kind a gift for them, so they can follow my experience even 8000 thousand miles away. I'll give them also a present, but I'm still organising so... Mum's the word!

Vaccinations Required

This morning I have finally done my last vaccination for the US. In fact, for those who don't know it, there are vaccinations required to attend the american school that in Italy are optional. I had to do the Mantoux Test and a lot of vaccinations. Nothing painful. The organisation requires also something that certify that you have done what they ask, as the one you can see up in the pic.

U.S. Consulate and Visa

Ciao a tutti!  In questo post, come accennato precedentemente, vi parlerò dell'appuntamento al consolato statunitense che ho fatto oggi pomeriggio a Milano. È stata una giornata davvero calda, c'era afa, e la temperatura ha raggiunto i 36 °C, ma ne è valsa la pena. Infatti, vi preannuncio che ho ottenuto il visto per il mio anno all'estero, ora sono ufficialmente pronto per partire!!!

 Sono andato in treno fino a Milano, dove mi sono incontrato con gli altri amici della Wep che avevano il colloquio il mio stesso giorno. Arrivati al consolato ci hanno fatto mettere in coda fuori con tutti quelli della Wep, e lì, provati dalla temperatura, abbiamo aspettato per quasi due ore, noi eravamo in anticipo e loro in ritardo. Eravamo in 69 e io sono entrato fra gli ultimi 25 circa. Per chi dovesse, e glielo auguro, fare un visto che prevede di recarsi in consolato, attenzione: non si può portare praticamente nulla all'interno, ci sono delle cassettine in cui mettere telefono e portafoglio ma sono spesso piene; la soluzione migliore, se non avete nessuno fuori che vi possa tenere gli effetti personali, è lasciarli in deposito a un bar nelle vicinanza al costo di 5€. Le uniche cose che potete portare all'interno sono il passaporto, una foto tessera e copia dei documenti richiesti di cui ora vi parlerò.

La documentazione necessaria non è particolarmente complessa. Innanzitutto è richiesto un passaporto originale valido, ovviamente, con una foto tessera 5X5. Bisogna poi portare un modulo che compila l'agenzia e che, timbrato dal consolato, vi permette l'ingresso negli Stati Uniti (DS 2019 per il programma exchange). L'unico documento da compilare è il DS 160 con le solite domande di routine, contatti, composizione della famiglia, dati personali e motivazioni. Per il piano economico, prima dell'appuntamento, è necessario pagare la tassa SEVIS e la tassa consolare, per un totale che si aggira attorno ai 300 euro. Come ultimo passo alcuni documenti richiesti sono un certificato di nascita e l'estratto conto o la busta paga dei genitori. Caricherete poi tutti questi documenti su un sito apposito per confermare la vostra presenza all'appuntamento. 

Dove eravamo rimasti?... Ah già! Una volta entranti, dopo i controlli di sicurezza, prendere un numero. Vi chiameranno una prima volta per consegnare i documenti, una seconda per prendervi le impronte digitali e, infine, una terza per l'intervista. Tecnicamente il colloquio è in inglese col console ma, spesso, a causa del numero di richiedenti, viene fatto con un assistente o un funzionario in italiano, com'è capitato a me e alla maggior parte degli Exchange. Le domande erano molto banali: nome, destinazione, se è il primo viaggio negli stati uniti e se i miei genitori risiedono in Italia. Questo è tutto, a quel punto vi diranno che avete ottenuto il visto e che arriverà in una settimana. Si tengono il vostro passaporto che andrete a ritirare o, come me, vi farete spedire. 

E così anche l'ultimo passo è fatto... -27 e tanta voglia di partire!

English Translation

Hi everybody! In this post, as I had promised, I'm gonna tell you about the appointment at the US Consulate I've done today in Milan. It's been a very hot day, there has been mugginess and the temperature has almost reached 95°F, but it has been worth it. In fact I announce you I have got the Visa for my year abroad, now I'm officially ready to leave! I went by train To Milan, where I met the others exchange Wep students. Once at the consulate we waited in line, tortured by the hot, for almost two hours. For those who will have to go there I recommend not to bring anything as you must leave everything out, the best solution is to rent a locker in a cafe nearby. The only things you can and must have are the passport and the documents for the visa, as I'll explain now.

The documents aren't too much: an original passport, a pic 5X5 and the documents you must have filled. First of all the DS 2019 for an exchange year that you must have when you leave, your organisation will give it to you. Then you're asked to fill the DS 160 online, with the routine questions, contacts, family composition, motivations and personal data. For what concerns the money you have to pay the SEVIS and the Consular Fee, all it's around 300 dollars. To confirm you presence at the appointment you have to upload all these documents online on website.

Where had we stopped?... Oh, right! When you are in, after the security control, you take a number. You'll be called first for the documents, then for the fingerprints and, at last, for the interview. This should be in english with the consul but as it's always full the students often do that in Italian with an assistant. Questions are silly: name, destination, parents' living location, if it's the first time in the States. That's all, they'll tell that you have got the Visa and that they'll mail it to you in a week.

So even the last step it's done... -27 and a huge desire to leave!
