Snowboarding - Monarch Mountain Ski Resort

Life is learning, you never stop, you just can't. This is something I really like, I love making new experiences, meeting new people, visiting new places, expanding my knowledge, learning new languages, knowing more and more. This is definitely one of the reasons why I decided to go on exchange. This 2016 is going really good, and I'm trying to set goals and achieved them. One of them was learning the saxophone, which I succeeded at. Another one was becoming a better person, be less sarcastic, nicer, more mature.. and let's say I'm still kind of working on this one. The one I accomplished today was to learn snowboarding, and in the first place it's thanks to my host family which pushed me to try when we went three weeks ago.

Today as I told you I went to the Rocky Mountains, to the Monarch Ski Resort, with the group of exchange students from the CCI. We left early in the morning and we got back a couple of hours ago. It was one of the best days ever, I had so much fun. I had just tried a couple of downhills when I went with my host family and I wasn't really able to snowboard. Today we did it for five hours and I've learnt pretty good, I think I fell just like twice in the last hour. I really enjoyed it, I'm proud of myself... even tho my knees hurt really bad hahaha. But it was definitely worth it. 

You know, when you go on exchange you meet really great foreign students, which you get along with because you're living the same experience, same fears, same problems. I want to thank all the people I met here who helped me and became friends, and to all those who spent this fantastic day with me, this is for you. In particular I'd like to thank Federico and Andres, from Italy and Spain, which are awesome guys and we always have a lot of fun together, and especially thank you for helping me and teaching me how to snowboard today :)

La vita è apprendere, non si smette mai, semplicemente non si può. Questo è qualcosa che mi piace per davvero, amo fare nuove esperienze, conoscere nuove persone, visitare posti nuovi, ampliare la mia conoscenza, imparare nuove lingue, sapere sempre di più. Questo è senza dubbio uno dei motivi per cui ho deciso di fare questo anno all'estero. Questo 2016 sta andando davvero bene, e sto provando a porre obiettivi e a raggiungerli. Uno era imparare a suonare il sax, e ce l'ho fatta. Un altro era diventare una persona migliore, meno sarcastico, più gentile, più maturo... e diciamo che ci sto ancora lavorando. Quello che ho realizzato oggi è imparare a fare snowboard, e in primo luogo è grazie alla mia famiglia ospitante che mi ha spinto a provare quando siamo andati tre settimane fa. Oggi come vi avevo detto sono andato alle Montagne Rocciose, in un posto chiamato Monarch Ski Resort, con il gruppo di studenti internazionali della CCI. Siamo partiti presto stamattina e siamo tornati alcune ore fa. é stato uno dei giorni migliori di sempre, mi sono divertito davvero tanto. Avevo fatto solo un paio di discese quando ero andato con la mia famiglia ospitante e non ero per niente in grado di fare snowboard. Oggi l'ho fatto per 5 ore filate e ho imparato bene, sono caduto solo 2 volte nell'ultima ora. Mi è davvero piaciuto, sono orgoglioso di me stesso... anche se le mie ginocchia fanno malissimo hahahah. Ma ne è falsa la pena. Sapete, quando si studia all'estero si incontrano un sacco di studenti fantastici, con cui si va d'accordo perchè si sta vivendo la stessa esperienza, stesse paure, stessi problemi. Vorrei ringraziare tutte le persone che ho conosciuto qui, che mi hanno aiutato e con cui ho stretto amicizia, e tutto quelli che hanno passato questa giornata con me, questo è dedicato a voi. In particolare vorrei ringraziare Federico e Andres, due studenti, dall'Italia e dalla Spagna, due ragazzi davvero grandiosi con cui mi diverto sempre tantissimo, e specialmente grazie per avermi aiutato e insegnato a fare snowboard oggi :)

How do you know what is to seize the day, if you never saw the time running so fast?

Today it's been six month since I left my home, my family, and my life, to realize my dream. It looks like yesterday when I was in my bedroom, in Italy, and I wrote the first post, I opened this blog. And here I am now, 255 days later, half way around the world, writing the 59th. I can't believe all this became true, and that it's going by so fast. It's now time to stop counting up and start counting down. 4 month less, and then back to real life, back to school, back home. I'm really happy of what I achieved in these months here and i?m ready to live the one iI have left with spirit and enthusiasm. Time goes by really fast, and even if it sounds banal, yes, it looks like yesterday when I decided to do this, when I went to Milan to take the admission test, when I received the information about my host family, when I left. 6 down, 4 to go! Tomorrow I'll go to the ski trip with the CCI, hopefully I'll write about it on Sunday, and I'll also write about the letter I wrote at the Orientation, which I'm supposed to open tomorrow :)

Oggi sono sei mesi da quando ho lasciato la mia casa, la mia famiglia, la mia vita, per realizzare il mio sogno, Sembra ieri quando ero nella mia camera e ho aperto questo blog, ho scritto il primo post. Ed eccomi qui, 255 giorni dopo, dall'altra parte del mondo, scrivendo il 59°. Non posso credere che tutto sia davvero diventato realtà, e che stia andando così veloce. è ora di smettere di contare da quanto sono qui e cominciare a contare quanto ancora ci starò. 4 mesi, e poi tornerò alla vita reale, a scuola, a casa. Sono davvero felice di tutto ciò che ho realizzato in questi mesi e sono pronto a vivere i rimanenti con spirito ed entusiasmo. Il tempo passa in fretta, e anche se sembrerà la solita frase banale, sembra ieri quando ho deciso di fare tutto questo, quando sono andato a Milano a sostenere l'esame d'ammissione, quando ho ricevuto le informazioni sulla mia famiglia ospitante, quando sono partito. 6 sono andati, 4 da vivere!

Domani andrò con la CCI a sciare, spero di riuscire a scriverne domenica, e scriverò anche della lettera che devo aprire domani, che ho scritto all'Orientation a Ravenna 8 mesi fa :)

Saxophone & Jazz Band

A new year has started, another one is gone. As usual people make goals for the new year, promises, which ofter are not accomplished. I don't wanna be like that, and I won't. This year is very important for me, it's gonna be one of the best of my life, I'll never forget it. I think you guys know I play the baritone, I have been playing it for 7 years, and I'm not going to stop. But I've also wanted to learn more, I love music! I've always wanted to learn several instruments, mainly Piano and Saxophone. Talking to a friend last week I realised that you can join a band at school even tho you don't play an instrument, you can practice at home and do self-teaching, and learn in the process. I also realised that you can take two classes at the same period and be sometimes in a class and sometimes in the other, if they're not main classes. Putting all this stuff together it turned out perfect. So I decided to learn the saxophone. I talked to Mr. Bell, our music director, and he was really happy about it, and he gave me a tenor sax, I wanted an alto sax but he didn't have one, and they're the same, once you learn one you can play all the saxophones. I was so excited, and this morning I went to the music store to buy reeds, a book, a neck strap and other stuff. So I started and at the beginning it was a little bit hard to get the notes and learn the positions but I did it. Between yesterday and today I practised like 3/4 hours and I think I did a good job, I know all the notes and I got a good sound, I just have to get more confident changing positions fast and practice practise practise! I'm really happy about his. I'll be playing in Jazz Band, which is the same period as Spanish V in my schedule, which is an easy class for me since I'm pretty fluent in Spanish so it's totally fine if I skip it once or twice a week. Next Tuesday I'll have my first practise with the band and then I'll let you know :) Hope you like the songs I chose! 

Un nuovo anno è iniziato e un altro è finito. Come sempre le persone si pongono propositi per l'anno nuovo, si fanno promesse, che spesso non mantengono. Non voglio essere così, e non lo sarò. Quest'anno è molto importante per me e sarà uno dei migliori della mia vita, non me ne dimenticherò mai. Credo sappiate che suono il Flicorno Baritono (Bombardino) da circa 7 anni e non ho intenzione di smettere. Ho sempre voluto imparare a suonare altri strumenti, soprattutto Pianoforte e Sax. Parlando con un'amica ho scoperto che si può entrare in una delle bande a scuola anche senza saper suonare, si fa pratica a casa e si impara da autodidatta, poi si fanno le prove a scuola e si impara nel processo. Ho scoperto anche che si possono frequentare due classi nello stesso periodo, si va a volte a una e a volte all'altra. Pensando a tutto questo ho realizzato che è perfetto, quindi ho deciso di imparare a suonare il Sax. Ho parlato con Mr. Bell, il nostro maestro di banda, ed era molto contento e mi ha dato un sax tenore. Io in realtà volevo un contralto ma non ne aveva uno, ma in realtà è uguale perché si suonano tutti allo stesso modo quindi una volta in Italia posso benissimo suonare il contralto. Ero davvero contento e stamattina sono andato al negozio di musica a comprare ance, un libro, un collare e altre cose. Ho iniziato a provare e all'inizio era un po' difficile fare le note giuste e imparare le posizione. Fra ieri e oggi mi sono esercitato 3/4 ore e ora non va per niente male, so tutte le note e posizione, devo solo prendere più confidenza e imparare a cambiare note velocemente. Sono davvero felice! Suonerò in Jazz Band che è alla stessa ora di spagnolo, che però è facile visto che parlo bene spagnolo quindi non avrò problemi se salterò alcune lezioni. Il prossimo martedì farò la mia prima prova con quella banda e niente, vi farò sapere :) Spero vi piacciano le canzoni che ho scelto!

Family Visiting!!! - A Special Thanking

"The departure is now approaching and always more often I think about this experience, what's going to happen, from where everything has started, but most of all thanks to who this, from dream, has become truth. I'm writing this for you, mom and dad. You don't know about this blog yet, I'm planning on telling you the day I'll leave and I hope you'll read this, because it's dedicated to you. It's thanks to you if this experience is about to happen. For me it's a sacrifice for some aspects, but for you is definitely a bigger one. To see you son leave like this, for 10 month, alone, far away from home. If I think about it, it looks like yesterday when I used to cry every night, when I drove you to distraction, when I was your little child... But when we'll see again I'll be 18. What I'm trying to say, with sincerity and love, is Thank You.

Skiing & Snowboarding - Rocky Mountains

Hey! As I said in the post I published earlier I wanna talk about this past weekend I spent with my host family up in the mountains, I don't really have a lot to say so it's gonna be short.

We left Saturday morning and we had breakfast at Mc Donald's, we reached the place around midday. Where we went it's called Mount Princeton, it's about 2 hours from Colorado Springs. It was really amazing, snow everywhere and it wasn't that cold after all. While we were waiting for the room to be cleaned we went to the outside pool, a hot one of course. We didn't go skiing on Saturday because it was pretty far and we would have come back too late. At night we had dinner in a little town not far from the hotel. On Sunday we left in the morning for Leadville, pretty far from where we stayed. 

I actually didn't want to ski, I wasn't able to, never done it before, and I didn't have very warm clothes. I'm glad they convinced me to do because it was really fun and I liked it a lot. At first we skied, Helen, Bryan, Katherine and I. It was way easier then what I thought, I fell just once, helping Katherine getting up actually hahaha. Then since Bryan didn't like it - he does snowboard - he snowboarded and so did I. This was actually more difficult, we went down like 4 times and I fell about 15 times. At the end I kind of got it tho, I think I'll be able to do it without problems after doing it a couple more times. We'll likely go again, probably with my host sister's boyfriend and as I said there is gonna be a ski trip at the end of the month with the CCI. I need to buy some clothes hahah

By the way I'm happy, I should have skied before and I'll definitely go again in Italy! As usual here are some pictures :)

Ehi! Come vi avevo detto nel posto che ho pubblicato prima parlerò del fine settimana che ho passato in montagna con la mia famiglia ospitante, non ho molto da dire in realtà haha

Siamo partiti sabato mattina, colazione da Mc Donald's in stile americano e siamo arrivati attorno a mezzogiorno. Il posto di chiama Mount Princeton, a circa 2 ore da Colorado Springs. Il posto è veramente bello, neve ovunque e non faceva nemmeno tanto freddo. Mentre aspettavamo che la stanza fosse pulita siamo andati alla piscina all'aperto, calda ovviamente. Non siamo andati a sciare perchè saremmo tornati troppo tardi. La sera abbiamo cenato in una piccola città non lontana dall'hotel. Domenica siamo partiti la mattina per Leadville, una cittadina abbastanza lontana. Io in realtà non volevo sciare, non ero capace, non avevo i vestiti adatti. Ma mi hanno convinto e ne sono contento perchè mi sono davvero divertito. Prima abbiamo sciato, Helen; Katherine, Bryan e io. 

L'ho trovato molto più facile di quanto mi aspettassi, sono caduto solo una volta aiutato la mia sorella ospitante ad alzarsi hahaha. Poi visto che a Bryan non piaceva visto che lui fa snowboard ha cambiato e ho cambiato anche io. é stato più difficile, abbiamo fatto 4 discese e sono caduto una quindicina di volte. Alla fine però ho imparato e credo che se lo farò ancora un paio di volte sarò in grado di andarci abbastanza bene. Probabilmente andremo ancora, di sicuro qualche volta con il fidanzato della mia sorella ospitante e poi come ho detto con la mia associazione americana a fine mese. Devo solo comprare dei vestiti adatti hahaha

Comunque sono felice, avrei dovuto provare prima e di sicuro andrò anche quando tornerò in Italia. Come sempre ecco alcune fotografie :)

Christmas & New Year's Eve

Happy New Year Everybody!!! Sorry I'm late hahaha It's been a while and this is why I have different thinks to talk about. Pretty much it's this holidays, how I spent these past two weeks. I'll likely do another post, maybe still today, to talk about the last weekend, which we spent in the mountains.

First the exchange student party we did on the 20th with the CCI which was fun, we had to make an original dessert from our country to share, I made a Crostata (Italian Tart). Then we had to buy a White Elephant: a little gift that was going to be given to one of the other students randomly, a sort of Secret Santa, with different rules. I got a wc toilet shaped mug, which I don't have right now but I'll post a picture if I remember to hahaha. After that some friends and I went to eat at Smash Burger. We'll have a ski trip at the end of the month which I wasn't going to go since I can't ski, but after I tried yesterday with my host family I really liked it so I'll go.

On Christmas' Eve with my family we went to eat to a friend's house and then we spent a while to my host sister's boyfriend's house. It was pretty fun. For the Christmas' day we went to church and then we came home and open the presents. On 26th we went to a baptism, their cousin's sons one and then we had a little party here at the house since it was also my host mom's brother birthday. Party never ends lol. After that I had some quiet days at home, sleeping and watching Netflix. For New Year's Eve we rented a Salon with friends and relatives, 70 people actually, where there was food, a lot of food, and music and there we spent the midnight. For the 30th Helen made Tamales, which is a typical food from El Salvador where she is from and they're amazing! 

Then we spent last weekend in the mountains but I'll make another post soon about that.  Happy New Year, hope it's gonna be an awesome one! :)

Tamales

Buon anno a tutti! Scusate il ritardo, non ho scritto per un po'. In questo post parlerò velocemente di queste vacanze, Natale e Capodanno, le ultime due settimane. Penso che poi farò un altro post in cui parlerò del fine settimana scorso che abbiamo passato in montagna. Prima di tutto volevo parlare della festicciola che abbiamo fatto il 20 con gli exchange student della CCI. Ci siamo trovati e ognuno doveva fare e portare un dolce tipico del proprio paese, io ho fatto la crostata :) Poi dovevamo anche comprare un piccolo regalo per questo gioco chiamato Elefante Bianco, una specie di Natale Segreto. Io ho ricevuto una tazza a forma di toilet che però ora non ho, posterò una foto prossimamente. Dopo questo siamo andati a Smash Burger a mangiare, veramente buono!!! A fine mese ci sarà una giornata in cui andremo a sciare, non pensavo di andare visto che non sapevo sciare ma poi siamo andati ieri con la mia famiglia e non è difficile, ho imparato e mi sono divertito molto quindi ci andrò di sicuro. 

Crostata

Per la vigilia di Natale siamo andati a cena a casa di un amico e poi siamo stati un po' a casa del fidanzato della mia sorella ospitante, Katherine. Il giorno di Natale siamo andati a messa e poi siamo tornati a casa e abbiamo aperto i regali. Il giorno di Santo Stefan, che qui non è festeggiato, siamo andati al battesimo dei figli del cugino e poi abbiamo avuto una piccola festa a casa visto che era anche il compleanno del fratello di Helen, la mia madre ospitante. Sono stati giorni di festa, troppo cibo hahah Dopo questi giorni ho avuto giornate tranquille in cui ho praticamente dormito e guardato film.

Per Capodanno abbiamo affittato un salone con amici e parenti, eravamo in 70, e c'era musica e cibo, molto cibo e lì abbiamo passato la mezzanotte. Per Capodanno Helen fa sempre Tamales, cucina tipica salvadoregna, che erano davvero fantastici. L'ultimo fine settimana l'abbiamo passato in montagna, più tardi scriverò un altro post.
